Do I need an account, email, or phone number?
No. Constellation has no sign-in of any kind. On first launch, you pick a display name and an emoji — that's your whole profile, stored only on your device.
When should I install the app?
Before you drive in. There's no cell signal or App Store access on the playa, so Constellation and its offline Black Rock City map need to be downloaded while you still have a connection.
Does the app work without cell service or Wi-Fi?
Yes — that's the whole point. Constellation works in airplane mode. The Black Rock City map, guides, and your friend list are all bundled on your device. Finding friends and messaging happen phone-to-phone over Bluetooth and Ultra-Wideband, with no internet required.
Why do I need Bluetooth and Location permissions?
Bluetooth (and Ultra-Wideband, if your device supports it) is how your phone finds and talks to nearby friends' phones directly — this is the mesh. Location shows your position on the map and lets you share it with friends you've approved. You can decline either permission and still use the app; some features will just be limited.
How do I add a friend?
Open the Friends tab and tap "Add a Friend." Both people scan a two-part QR code exchange — this mutual scan is what creates the connection. There's no searching for strangers or public profile list; you can only connect with someone who scans with you in person.
Who can see my location?
Nobody, by default. Location sharing is off for every new friend until you turn it on for them specifically. Even then, it's shared only directly with that friend over the encrypted mesh — never broadcast publicly, and never sent to a server.
Can I block or remove someone?
Yes, at any time, from the Friends tab or Settings → Blocked Users. Blocking immediately stops all location sharing and messaging with that person.
How do I delete my data?
Uninstall the app. Because Constellation has no server-side account, your identity, friend list, messages, and location history all live only on your device — deleting the app deletes all of it. See our Privacy Policy for details.
