Please read these Terms of Use ("Terms") carefully before using the Constellation mobile application (the "App"), published under the name "Connection Medicine" and operated by Resilient Networks, Inc. ("Company," "We," or "Us"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
Constellation is a free gift to the Burning Man community — built as tech art for Black Rock City, offline by design, with no ads, no in-app purchases, and no tracking. These Terms reflect that: there is very little we ask of you, and very little we take.
1. License and Acceptable Use
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes, subject to these Terms and any applicable app store rules.
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful, harmful, or abusive purpose.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App.
- Interfere with or disrupt the App, the mesh network, or other users' devices.
- Harass, stalk, or impersonate other users.
- Share content that is illegal, threatening, defamatory, or infringing.
2. Accounts and Identity
Constellation does not require an account, email address, or phone number. The App generates a pseudonymous identity locally on your device when you set up your profile (a display name and emoji you choose). We never see this identity — there is no server-side account to create or delete.
You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the App only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
3. Location, Bluetooth, and Other Permissions
The App uses location, Bluetooth, Ultra-Wideband (UWB), camera, and notification permissions to provide its core features: showing your position on the venue map, finding nearby friends over the mesh, scanning QR codes to add friends, and alerting you when friends are nearby. You may grant or deny these permissions at any time through your device settings; some features will be limited if permissions are denied.
Location sharing is opt-in per friend and always under your control. New friends default to location sharing OFF. You can stop sharing your location with any friend, or block them entirely, at any time from within the App.
4. Friend Connections and Content
Friend connections require mutual consent — established through a two-way QR scan or Bluetooth exchange. There is no public feed, discoverable profile list, or stranger interaction; all messaging and location sharing happens only between contacts who have both agreed to connect.
Any content you create or share through the App (such as a display name, emoji, dropped pin, or message) is your responsibility. Messages you send over the peer-to-peer mesh are end-to-end encrypted — we cannot read them, and we do not store them.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your ability to use the App if you violate these Terms or abuse the mesh network.
5. Offline / Off-Grid Use
Constellation is designed to work entirely without cellular data or internet access. Some features — such as fetching an updated event cartridge (map, guides, crew info) — may use an internet connection when available, but the App remains fully functional offline. Because there is no connectivity at most event venues, install the App and complete onboarding before you arrive.
6. Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what little information we collect and how it is protected.
7. Disclaimers
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the App, or the peer-to-peer mesh it depends on, will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times — mesh connectivity depends on the number and proximity of other participating devices.
Constellation is a companion tool for finding friends at an event. It is not a safety or emergency service. Do not rely on the App as your only means of locating friends or communicating in situations where personal safety is at risk.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Resilient Networks, Inc. and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the App.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms at this URL and updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
